Irini Bachlitzanaki participates in the group exhibition Domestic Matter, which opens on Thursday 11.05.2017
The exhibition brings together 15 visual artists working in different media and styles, under the common theme of the meeting of the domestic environment with the work of art. The exhibition is hosted in the studio-home of artist Katerina Papazisi on Praxitelous 31. The curating of the exhibition was done by Katerina in collaboration with the participating artists.
A private space, a hybrid living-working space in the center of Athens opens up to the public, revealing some hidden aspects of the everyday life of artists working in the city.
The fusion of the artist’s studio and the artist’s home under the same roof, the domestic object or environment or the experience within this environment as the prima materia for the work of art, the work of art as an element of the domestic space, the difference in the artwork’s reception when exhibited in a such a setting rather than in a formal exhibition space and the opening up of the private to the public are some of the themes that the exhibition’s curating addresses.
Opening up a private space to the public, the exhibition aims to stress the interplay between the two in shaping reality. Also, to start a discussion on the possibility of the personal or the private to become the springboard for collaborative practices that can develop alternative ways of dealing with the conditions of reality at a time when interest in art is geared towards public space while conditions push towards turning inwards.
The exhibition opens on Thursday, 11th of May at 20:00 and runs until the 27th of May.
On the day of the opening, at 22:00, Yorgia Karidi sings tucked in bed. Super chill things.
