Elika Gallery presents the second solo show of Myrto Xanthopoulou, ‘sing’. The title of the exhibition encapsulates both the order’s fierceness as well as a motivation’s tenderness. The need for it is urgent, it is a method of resistance and of survival.
Words form the core of the exhibiton. Their repetition is an act of ascribing meaning, or an effort against the loss of meaning. Through repetition words constantly lose and regaing their meaning, as they beome fragments, traces of a shattered reality. At the same time they are resignified as they turn into formations, spreads and drawings. Xanthopoulou’s structures also operate as text and punctuation marks, completing the meaning or its lack thereof.
The ensemble of phrases utters a fragmented narrative, a song that at times refers to the city’s landscape and at others to interior landscapes which reflect collective experiences.
